A hand is called a top pair if it has an ace and a seven in the hole. A pair of sevens is a top pair, and is the best possible hand in the game. Top pair can also be achieved by hitting the turn and river cards. Depending on the card order, a top pair can be a high-card suited pair, such as an ace and a seven. Similarly, an overpair can be achieved with a pair of nines or more.
The cards are dealt in prearranged face-down rounds, and then face-up rounds follow, or “streets.” After each hand, the dealer passes the button to the left of the table. During a poker game, the dealer’s button is a white disk, or buck. The dealer, usually a player with a buck, is the person who handles the cards. The dealer is also called the house dealer, and it is their responsibility to deal cards for each hand.
